Dr. Marilyn Walker, aka Professor PlayFair, is a widely published expert on the environment and global warming, and also the CEO and primary owner of PlayFair Toys. PlayFair Toys is nationally known as the first toy store to focus exclusively on "nonsexist, nonviolent" toys. This unique, socially fresh aspect has been covered in the national media, including an article in the New York Times.
Dr. Walker has been quoted and featured in a wide variety of print media including National Geographic and Playthings, and local publications such as the Boulder Daily Camera and the Longmont Times-Call. Dr. Walker has published her own articles in scientific journals including Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Climatic Change, and more than 20 others.
Dr. Walker has also published many book chapters in the scientific literature and in the popular press. She has a chapter in High IQ Kids (Free Spirit Publishing, October 2007) on her personal experiences with very smart children in the school system.
Dr. Walker has been an invited speaker before many academic forums including the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis, the Ecological Society of America, and the Academy of Sciences USSR, among others.
In 2004, Dr. Walker took the bold move of leaving the science world in order to make a more local impact - running a local business that benefited children.
