Popular for many years, Lego redesigned and re-released Mindstorms in 2007 as NXT, the next generation. Now there's version 2.0, which adds color recognition capability. The main part of the kit is the NXT, the computer controller brain of your Mindstorms Robotics Kit. It's about the size of an iPod and includes a loudspeaker, a monochrome LCD, and navigation keys. The Mindstorm NXT has three ports on top for connecting to the motors and four ports on the bottom for connecting to four different sensors: 2 touch sensors, color, and ultrasonic. Although it sounds sophisticated, and it is, the kit is designed to walk beginners right through the process and get the started building their own robotics right away. It takes about 30 minutes to build your first robot if you follow the easy, illustrated instructions.
